My work is an examination of the core issues of diversity and the value of personhood. I believe the act of creating allows an artist to better understand the Creator God. Seeing individuals as divine artworks created in the Image of God is the first step to seeing value and worth in every person. In the upheaval and protest of recent years, I realize that my life has outgrown the worldview I once held. As I deconstruct the traditional modes of thinking that have suppressed so many voices in society and the church, I am looking for a way to break through the bars meant to cage us and find the freedom of faith. I explore ideas of gender inequality and diversity, especially where they converge with teachings of the church that are not reflected in the life of Jesus. Far from expounding statements of truth, I am visually working through questions on key issues as a way to invite viewers to ponder a different perspective.

My creative process is rooted in the use of allegory and metaphor to highlight the inconsistencies in modern society. By transforming waste materials into beauty, I want to engage the viewer with the redemption of what is lost. Through my work, I am searching for the deeper ties that connect us to each other, while also exposing the fault lines and border walls in our culture. In my pursuit to find my own voice, I look to create visual narratives that convey the beauty and dignity of marginalized individuals that illuminate their worth.
